A Tribute To The Masters
Frank Rosolino - Violets
The inspiration for this piece came with the unfortunate passing
of Carl Fontana. He was the last of the three great masters of the
trombone, the other two being J.J. Johnson and Frank Rosolino. Thus, "A
Tribute To The Masters" began. The piece "Violets" comes from Rosolino's
recording with the Holland Symphony Orchestra. This arrangement borrows
the original orchestral introduction by composer Rob Pronk.
This piece features a solo trombonist. It was most
recently performed at the 2004 International Trombone Festival by the Piedmont
Trombone Society, winners of the Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition.
Recorded at the Univ. of Miami. Trombones: Jeremy Levy,
Tim Pitchford, Dave Lambert, Chad
Bernstein, and Joel Keene. Trombone solo by Jeremy Levy.
