Some Far-Away Someone

Winner of the 2004 Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Jazz Arrangement.

This arrangement is written for a reduced big band with a female vocal.  Originally written by George Gershwin in the 1920s, this arrangement breathes new life into this little known gem.  Featuring a bossa nova beat with a modern reharmonization, and a tenor sax solo, this chart is fun for the band and the listener.

Recorded by the Univ. of Miami Concert Jazz Band.  Vocal by Amy Yassinger, tenor solo by Brandon Wright.

Intermediate

Written for:  Female Soloist, 3 Saxes w/ Flute doubles (Alto, Tenor, Bari), 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombones (Tenor and Bass), and 4 Rhythm.
