Throne of Eldraine - Magic: The Gathering
Last year, I had an opportunity to score an animated promo for Magic: The Gathering’s new expansion set: Throne of Eldraine. Gordy Haab called me in to co-compose this short, knowing that I had a lot of experience arranging pop songs for orchestra. The song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” originally sung by Frankie Valli, was licensed to be used in this promo. Despite frequent requests online, there is NOT a full length version of this song, as it was custom scored to picture.
A 67-piece orchestra of AFM musicians was booked at the Newman Scoring stage at Fox, along with a great rhythm section. The voice for our cookie heroine was expertly provided by Suzanne Waters. Gordy Haab provided remote support from London while he was recording Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
This project couldn’t have happened without the great team at Wizards of the Coast, Jeffrey Stewart, Paul Lipson and Savina Ciaramella of Formosa Group, Gina Zimmitti, Wataru Hokoyama, Steve Kaplan, and Booker White.
I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. With over 9 million views on YouTube, we seemed to have gotten something right!
